Could this device eliminate the need for curb cuts and driveway ramps, allowing for more efficient and interesting street designs?  Check it out.

Water Retention Landscape Course

Could be a good idea to send some of the DPW staff here - or perhaps some urban planning folks.
Or maybe some students.

Transportation for America Petition : Tell Congress : Send Dollars Where the Real Needs Are

http://action.smartgrowthamerica.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=19208

I share this particular petition for the following paragraphs in the robo letter it creates and sends to our Congressional representatives :

"• Ensure funds are flexible enough to spend on all modes of transportation. Let communities invest in whatever way will bring the biggest bang for the buck.
 • Empower local communities with more control and resources. Local leaders are best able to identify the particular transportation investments to address their communities’ unique challenges."

The reason that neighborhoods with unique and historic character all over the country are getting cookie cutter concrete slabs forced onto them has to do with restrictions in the grant funding source.

For example - The Safe Routes funding for Evergreen started at the National level, then got distributed through the state.

So, by signing this petition, we will be giving more flexibility to local DPW departments. That translates to fewer cookie cutter intrusions into our unique local landscape. At least that's my optimistic interpretation.

Thanks for hearing me out on this. I don't want to start a whole uproar again, I just would like to see fewer communities divided over public space projects that are supposed to be beneficial.

I believe in the power of community.

We have the power to make positive change, but only if we are given the opportunity to engage in the process.

Speaking truth to power is part of the process.

Sincerely,
Mari
